Lesson 160 a review of lesson 159

Lesson 159 – The Laser

Before the Laser was invented Max Planck had invented the Quantum Physics in the early 1900s. Einstein developed special theory of relativity in the early 1900s too. Light used particles and waves and General theory of relativity was also developed in the early 1900s. All three of them worked super hard on there inventions. But Einstein wasn’t done. He predicted laser light in 1917. Produced experimental interest. Witch means that he got the idea that in the future someone was going to make a strong type of light. Later called the laser! Laser came from a group at Bell Labs. They were literally called the Laser’s!

Charles Townes was born in South Carolina in the year 1915. The same year that Einstein Developed special theory of relativity. He invented Master in 1953. He liked the idea of making a light that was stronger then the lights in a building. That could take damage to something. So Charles went to the Bell labs and became part of the Laser group. He went to work everyday and worked as hard as he could. he then started working in the laser room 209 and accidentally made a light that was like a flashlight but had power. He named it the Laser because he was in the room that the Laser group worked in! The first laser made by Charles Townes was invented in 1958.

He showed his findings to his boss and the boss liked it. Now lasers are made in all sorts of colors and are used by all sorts of people.

Lasers of all colors

Charles lived till January 25th 2015. Making him one of the many inventors who lived even when you were alive. He received many awards from the US but he never forgot the day that the wonderful thing happened. He said:

“I remember just putting things together and somehow a light went through the hole I made and blow some papers off the table. I grabbed the Laser and started running down the hall towed my bosses room. Thinking of a name while I am going to my bosses room.”
Lasers are still used today just like most other inventions. But none other invention was made like that.

Lesson 152 – FM Radio

Before the FM Radio was invented people used AM Radio’s. They still do today, but it was the only Radio they had at that time. The AM Radio arrived in the early 1900s. It spread rapidly and a lot of people liked it. It was able to transmit news all over the world in real time. This was very impressive because no one had done the before. You could talk to another person in a different studio. Big companies liked AT&T because they were trying to solve big problems such as everyone being able to talk to one another in different places. Which we all call it today, The Phone.

Edwin Armstrong was born in New York in 1890. His family was very wealthy. He was a young scientist. He loved experimenting with things of all kinds. He became interested in radio improvements. At the age of 32 he went to the RCR. He learned how the AM Radio worked. Edwin Armstrong thought he could make a new Radio, he studied and made experiments and started figuring out more secrets behind the Radio. In the year 1933 he invented the FM Radio at the age of 43.

lesson 147 – George Washington Carver

The world before Him

Slavery in America began during Colonial times. Constitutional compromise were around also! The south was very successful. While the North wasn’t so lucky. New territory increased tensions witch wasn’t good for Slaves, because There was more land for slaves to be sold. Slaves had a higher risk of being separated from their families. Life was hard already with their families, but without their families was even harder.

His Entrepreneurial Insight

George Washington carver was born on January 1st 1864. In 1855 A Man who had previously bought Mr. Carver bought a 13 year old girl named Mary and Her husband jials . They had several children together. 2 boys named Jim and George. Carver became a Christin as a boy. He gained a massive disease, he was not expected to live more then the age of 21, but he survived and continued to serve his master. 4 months later he was let go and now no longer a slave!

Carver learned to give back to others. His education was important to him and sense he was black it was hard to find schools. after a hard time finding the school he thought was good for him he got his education for middle school and high school. He earned a college degree at age 24 and he became the smartest black male anyone had ever seen. He went to work for Booker T washington.

Made a friend named Ran. Ran experimental farms. he enjoyed it very much. Ran liked Carver but when he got married and started having children. Booker T Washington was not paying them enough. So Ran had to find business elsewhere. Carver never heard of Ran again.

Accomplishments he has done

He is mostly known for his farming techniques. Also when he was a slave he pioneered crop rotation in the south. Promoted peanut recipes, saying that peanuts were good for you. Mobile classroom’s for teaching farmers! (For his friend Ran.)

Lesson 125 a review of lesson 121

I am going to tell you what I learned about in this lesson listed below!

Lesson 121 – light bulb

Before the Light Bulb was invented, Humphrey Davy invented arc lamp in 1802. the problem was that the Arc Lamp was to powerful for small areas. Such as houses. Gas lighting was invented in the late 1700s by. Mr Murdoch. Arc Lamp required too much power. It wasted to much electricity. It needed lights with high resistance, not low resistance.
Thomas Edison was born in the United States on February 11th 1847. his brother Carlisle Edison was very curious why Thomas was so into electricity.

Thomas tried 3,000 different versions of the light bulb. He tested 6,000 kinds of plant matter for filaments. He invented the incandescent bulb in 1879! Ever sense then people have been having lights in there houses. Some people take the lights for granted.

Lesson 110 earmuffs

HOW IT WAS INVENTED

Chester Greenwood was born in Maine, on December 4th 1858. Maine has a very cold climate. They would get almost 100 inches of snow every year and it would get very cold. Chester Greenwood had big ears and they would freeze. Sure he could wear a scarf, but it would fall off a lot. That would not do for Chester. He needed a plan and fast!

Chester Greenwood

He went home to were he took care of his grandma. He took the wire that you use for hangers and made them into two ovals. Then he told his grandma to sew over them with beaver fur. Once she did he took a wire and connected the two ovals together, put it on and went outside. When he came inside his Grandma asked, “Ears cold?” and he replied, “nope!” It was a success!

(This happened in 1873! witch means he was only 15 when he got this idea!)

WHAT HE DID NEXT

he started making some for his friends. in the year 1884 when he was 24. He opened the first Factory. they made 65 earmuffs an hour. He expanded his company all around the US. When he died on July 5th 1937, his company continued to give earmuffs to everyone who needed them.

Today they have continued to give earmuffs to people who need the warmth on there ears!

What is my favorite part of the year

My favorite part of the year is July 4th. The reason why my favorite day of the year is not my birthday and is July 4th is because on my birthday I can’t go and see my family but on July 4th all my family comes together at the lake were my great aunt lives. Right next to her house is a camp were on July 4th tons of people come to.

They built a gazebo and a big fire pit that we like going in also it is by the lake. We like to swim in the lake and sense we have such a big family we have to sleep in the motorhome. Are uncle buys fireworks and sometimes we see the fireworks from the campsite. The most important thing is that we can come together in freedom. We also go there on Thanksgiving but that is the top 3. thank You and that is why July 4th is better then any other day. And is my favorite day of the year.

Lesson 80 Review of lesson 76

In Lesson 76 I learned about the salt and pepper shaker. In this lesson I will explain to you how The Salt and Pepper Shaker changed the world.

salt and pepper shakers

Salt has been used sense Jesus’ time. It is found in rocks and the crest of the earth. It was used to spice meat to let it have more taste. Black pepper also has been around for a long time. Even at the time of the greeks. The problem was though was that it was vary rare and expensive. Over time when the Greeks were dying down the Muslims took over and started trading the pepper. Then it started to get really popular in the Middle Ages.

pepper or salt was pinched or put in a bowl and mashed by arock before the shakers.

Lesson 95

In Lesson 95 I am going to tell you about Roller Skates because They were my favorite lesson this week.

Lesson 91 – Roller Skates

The 1860s was a terrible time for men. The Civil War started. The Southern states seceded over slavery. Also the debate taxes started in the southern parts of America. Abraham Lincoln was the president in the time of the Civil War. He promised to use force to keep the money, Because the southern men wanted to tax them. Over 600,000 Men were Killed by the end of the Civil War.

Merlin was the one who invented early skates and Silver Swan. He had a huge disaster demonstrating to the government in 1760. It was Ice Skates for the ground. James Plimpton invented modern Roller Skates in 1863. He did not think that it would be a big thing because not a long time after someone else made Roller Blades.

Roller Skates are shoes on wheels. Faster then walking, fun for kids and was very expensive. It is faster then walking because they were made to be like Ice-Skating. Ice -Skating activities were easily done with Roller Skates. Some people also say that you can get a Healthy Exercise.
Plimpton’s 4-wheel design was safer then The Roller Blades. Experimented with how to market it (sell it.) Sone he got a great idea to have a big place were you can rent or sell Roller Skates. He had a big place were they can Skate and that was how he sold them at the start. This big place we know today is called Skate City!

Lesson 95 review part 2

The Cowboy Hat was my favorite lesson this week. I am going to explain all I know about The Cowboy Hat and also this is part 2 of 2 of lesson 95.

Lesson 93- The Cowboy Hat

The World Before It

The American Old West, or most known as The Wild West was known for “Rugged Individualism.” President Thomas Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark on an expatiation early. Fur traders made Coonskin Caps fashionable in the 1800s. It Manifest destiny drove American expansion. Then in 1822 Texas, California, and Gold Rush Brought new settlers and tried to expand but failed.

How It Was Invented

John B. Stetson was born in 1830 in New Jersey. He traveled much in the west and took notice of the Hats People were waring. Coonskin Caps was what every cowboy was waring. He himself wore a Coonskin Cap, but not for long. He figured out that the Coonskin cap had attracted Fleas and terrible bugs! Soon after that people started waring different types of hats. He then got the idea of making his own hat for cowboys. It took time, but in 1865 he invented the Cowboy Hat.

The Function and Benefits

John Stetson’s hat was designed to be functional. Wide brim provided several benefits. Like the sun not getting in your eyes. It was made waterproof fur-felt. It is not done today, but back then they would fill there hat up with water and feed the water to horses. The Brim could also be styled for a personal touch.

Lesson 100 Review

In lesson 96 – 99 I learned all of these lessons listed below. I will explain all the lessons and how they were invented. Then I will tell you what my favorite lesson was for this week and why.

Lesson 96 – Dynamite

  1. The World Before Dynamite

Dynamite had ironic and Historical consequences. Before Dynamite, Gunpowder was the strongest explosive starting in the 1760s. But it wasn’t long before Nitroglycerin was discovered in early 1800s. It was still extremely volatile though and hard to use.

2. How It Was Invented

Alfred Nobel was born in Sweden in the year 1833. His family was very poor. He had 8 brothers, but lost 4 of them before they became adults. So his father got a new job making weapons for the Russian Tsar. Alfred studied chemistry in Paris and learned about explosives from his father. His younger brother after moving out of the house got Killed by an explosion 3 years later. There was only 3 children left. This inspired Alfred and at age 34 in the year 1867 he Invented Dynamite.
